Chaminuka Day!

     Chaminuka is a lodge located in  the outskirts of  Lusaka Zambia. Chaminuka not only provides great accommodation but is home to one of the greatest wildlife in Zambia. I had the opportunity to visit this place and I must say that I was greatly impressed by what Chaminuka had to offer. 

    I went to Chaminuka this past weekend with my family for a day trip. The journey to Chaminuka was
hectic. I say this because it was an extremely long ride and not because it is far but, because, at some point the road to Chaminuka is entirely gravel. Moreover, our GPS system had incorrect directions mapped out. We actually passed the entrance sign because our GPS was directing us to the old entrance. Despite these initial mishaps that placed us in a bad mood. our mood rapidly elevated once we saw how extravagant Chaminuka is. As you enter, you immediately begin to notice the wildlife that is present at Chaminuka. 

The journey from the main entrance to the actual lodge is an adventure on its own. You get to see some of the animals that Chaminuka has to offer. On the left is an image of a caged Cheetah and below is a picture of Zebras. These were some  of the animals that I was lucky enough to see just by driving to the lodge.  Chaminuka also offers a number of activities such as allowing you to walk the cheetahs but I sadly could not do this because it was fully booked for the day.

Another activity which provides an exhilarating experience was the boat ride. This is a scary but exciting experience. Scary because of the speed of the boat but also exciting because it takes you out of your comfort zone. During the boat ride, if you are lucky, you are able to view some of the animals that enjoy being by the waterfront. The most exciting activity that Chaminuka offers is its game drive. The game drive gives you the opportunity to see how the animals interact in their natural habitat.                                                                      

The picture on the left is of an elephant that I got to see called mabvuto which means problems in a Zambian  language called Chewa.  Elephants are very friendly and smart creatures. Chaminuka offers an experience in which you are allowed to interact with them. You can feed and pet them and take a walk with them. I also could not do this because I was not on time but I got a chance to see this happen with other people and it was interesting to witness the interaction between the elephant and people.
